Yes, that is what I feel like pregnant because I am such a slow cooker. First, Roscoe was 8 days late after 3 weeks of start-and-stop labor. Now, our baby girl is 4 days late (and counting) after over a month of scares and start-and-stop labor. What happened to the second coming earlier than the first? And girls coming earlier than boys? Ah well. It seems that some time after 40 weeks passes I just stop believing that I will actually give birth one of these days and just accept the permanent limbo I am living in. And, honestly, after this doozy of a pregnancy and the fear that she would come so early, I can't complain that we are both healthy and hanging out at 40 weeks 4 days in.
On the days I feel human I am trying to soak in the loveliness of this time I have with my boys before we meet the missing link. Roscoe continues to challenge and entertain and make my heart break with love for him. He has had several "firsts" in the last week or two.
* first french toast (made by Daddy) - loved. Probably because it was also his first taste of syrup! (Poor kid still thinks waffles are eaten only with butter...)
* first basketball hoop (craigslist bargain scouted by Daddy). Almost every toy has gone through the hoop, just to try it out. Balls, cars, books, Grover...
* first time jumping with both feet. No more lopsided hopping for Roo!
* first time tattling (on Lala!).
me: do you want some juice? (which he never has, but at 9 months pregnant rules are broken...)
Roscoe: Lala? (I knew I smelled apple juice in his "water" sippies after Lala visits, but it cracked me up that he called her out!)
* first big boy blood draw (in the arm, that is). He was a star. They took 6 vials of blood (!) and he didn't flinch, didn't cry, didn't move, nothing. Just watched, fascinated. I was so proud (and relieved) I almost burst.
* first lie. I showed Nani this morning where Roscoe drew on the wall with his crayons. I then overheard this conversation:
Nani: Roscoe, who did that? (pointing to his "masterpiece")
Roscoe: Dada.
Nani: Really? Who drew on the wall?
Roscoe: Crayon.
Alas.
