Sweet Lu

Whenever I think abstractly about Luka, I always think "Sweet Lu" because, well, she is.  She is a little sweet pea mamacita.  She is a little thing, yet her big heart shines through so apparently.  Her smile is giant - it still catches me by surprise.  Her nose crinkles, one eye squints... it is a full-face smile and it fills me with pure happiness.

Her new favorite word is Baby and she carries around any Baby she can find and hugs it and kisses it repeatedly and holds the Baby up for us to kiss and then kisses the Baby again herself.  Her Babies include the more predictable stuffed Bunny, Bear and Baby Lily, but she doesn't discriminate.  She Babies little plastic toys and the plastic motorcycle man that rides on Roscoe's remote control 4-wheeler, kissing his helmet and cuddling his perma-squatting plastic body.  She spontaneously gives us kisses and "ugga-mugga" nose kisses.  She loves to love.  Daddy, of course, gets special sweetness.  Only for him does Lu tilt her cheek toward him and wait for him to kiss it and then burrows in his chest with a big smile.  She may have been attached to Mama out of the gate, but this girl is a Daddy's Girl through and through.

Just like I did when I was young, she follows her Big Brother around, showering him with love.  She is convinced he is the funniest and coolest person on the planet.  It is harder to give him a time out these days because she goes and sits by him and pats his head and hugs him and tries to pull him up.

Even the dogs can't escape her affections.  She is often found following them around, hugging their backs.  Sometimes still hugging them as they walk away, walking with them. As an aside, the other day Ray and Luka had a conversation that went something like this:

          Ray: say Mama
          Luka: Mama
          Ray: say Baby
          Luka: Baby
          Ray: say Doggy
          Luka: shhh shhh shhh

From the Mouths of Babes

I am just eating up Roscoe's current age for the fact that he has invited us all into the inner workings of his (very) active imagination.  Here are a few recent tidbits:

* while eating breakfast and having an imaginary conversation/performance, I look over and he is bowing over and over, saying "thank you, thank you, thank you"

* while walking through Costco, he tries to engage the other shoppers in some fun yelling "HIP HIP -" and waiting for their response.  Only one person got it, but when the little old lady said "hooray?" We all couldn't stop laughing and smiling.

* upon waking I asked if he had sweet dreams and he said (enthusiastically), "Yes! I dreamed of chickens dancing!"

* after a yelling/timeout/makeup session, I said you know I still love you even when I am mad, don't you?  He replied, "But I don't love you when you're mad.  I only love you when you're happy."

There you have it, folks.

Life

Life right now:

Ray is working hard.
I am working hard.
Roscoe is just getting over a high fever/bad cough.
Luka has pneumonia and an ear infection and scary cough.
I am managing some "organizational changes" at work.
We are switching up childcare and Roscoe will start preschool soon.
Ikaika is almost deaf and almost blind.  He and Mela are both roly-poly and sweet.
Ray is working too much.
I am working too much.
There are 4 baskets of clean laundry waiting to be folded.  For a week.
My coffee intake has steadily increased.
Mom got plane tickets to visit us next month.
Roscoe has eaten an entire bag of Veggie Booty in the past two days.
Luka has become more picky, but could still live on meat.
Roscoe continues to survive on mainly fruit with occasional input from other food groups.
We have somehow basically stopped eating red meat.
Ray is putting up a fence in the backyard for a dog run.
Ray and I got a Muay Thai workout in the other weekend at the local boxing gym.
We introduced Roscoe and Luka to Bunkerd, our MT instructor.
We are daydreaming of a house in the East Bay hills.
I just read three very interesting books: The World Without Cancer, Quiet and Proof of Heaven.

That's a snapshot.  There's more (and pictures) to come...
